  • We loved this house! So much space for a big group. Comfortable outside seating options which is where we hung out the most. Very well stocked with kitchen items and beach chairs, etc. The location is great, not too far to get to many spots. The best snorkeling we found during our whole vacation was the access spot across the street from the house. We saw turtles, eels, and manta rays. We would definitely return to this house!

    Very spacious and well-equipped home. Our group of 8 was extremely comfortable and had plenty of space. Wonderful outdoor living area, and even though we were steps from ocean-access, the pool was really great to have. Quiet neighborhood, with a small market close by. The host was responsive, and check-in process was very smooth.

    We loved the house- there was so much room and extra space. I wish they would up the amount of people allowed to stay because there is plenty of space to fill! The house itself provides that traditional Hawaiian style twist. The fruit plants and trees- SO yummy! Turkeys? Yes please! The location was amazing- a very quick- back road drive to our favorite beach- hapuna. The beach that was somewhat walkable (15 minute walk) was pretty rocky but a beautiful spot (not somewhere I would lounge for the day though). The puako store just a minute or less drive down has a surprisingly diverse selection of goods! The only con I would say would be the lack of beach equipment. they say they have all the beach stuff- but no cooler and no boogie boards (though someone gave us some and we left them there to add to the collection). We go to big island every year and have stayed in a variety of different locations- when someone says beach gear- I expect all the goodies ?

    Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - ages 11 & 9) LOVED our stay at Honu Ohana in June of 2021. The property itself is spacious, inviting, clean and very well maintained. There is ample room to spread out and enjoy peace and quiet or to gather for fun and games. While there were just 4 of us, the property really does lend itself to multi-family or large group gatherings. The kitchen is well equipped which made at-home meal prep easy and convenient. Our kids especially loved the pool with water feature and we enjoyed reading on the covered lanai. Wifi was fast and reliable which made working from paradise easy. The location is fabulous - 30 minutes from the airport in Kona and plenty of public beaches for snorkeling and swimming easily accessible. Mahalo to the wonderful hosts for sharing their corner of paradise with us. It was a wonderful experience!

    We spent a week at Honu Ohana in July 2021 and had a wonderful time. After nothing but lockdowns and restricted travel, it was the perfect getaway. The property is beautiful and spacious, especially with the rarest of features: your own pool! Puako is a magical location along the Kona coast, out of the way enough to be private and quiet but close enough to beaches, restaurants and shopping to be convenient. We highly recommend Honu Ohana and cannot wait to return.

    The house was beautiful, spacious and had all the supplies and amenities we needed. It made our family vacation so relaxed and wonderful. The pool was wonderful and came with toys and life vests for my kid. The kitchen was so well stocked with cooking implements we ended up cooking the majority of the nights. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for everyone to hang out together or have some quite time alone. Excellent all around!

    Honu Ohana was a perfect place to get our whole family together. It's an enchanting private compound with very generous family oriented spaces. The address is right across the street from the ocean, and we actually saw the namesake turtles congregating in the tide pools at sunset. It couldn't have been more magical.

    Honu Ohana was easily accessible 30 min from the airport, but is located on a single outlet residential street in the Puako district. It avoids the hustle and bustle of Kona and you can really settle in and relax like a local - if only for a week. There is a great choice of local beaches with excellent snorkeling and kayaking opportunities . Fine dining at the local resorts resorts offered the ability to break away from the kids. For the more adventurous there is the potential to explore the island's volcanoes including driving up to the snow on Mauna Kea - we will do that next time!

    The place has a large primary kitchen (there are two!) and central dining area, a separate primary TV / living room and tons of well laid out bedrooms. There is an entire pool area complete with waterfall and banana tree forest on the side of the house that the smaller kids loved.

    The large front yard is enclosed from the street and as you sip your Kona coffee in the morning from the lanai looking out on the green Hawaii lawn with the tall palms gently swaying overhead you'll find a new happy place at Honu Ohana.

    Don't forget to try the artisanal Hawaiian-style donut truck at the highway turn off to Puako!
